B.I.G NAFF Announces the 2018 'NAFF Project' Official Selections
Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival's (Festival Director: CHOI Yongbae, hereafter BIFAN) 11th Network of Asian Fantastic Films (hereafter NAFF) has confirmed the 26 projects to be included in its list of the 2018 NAFF official selections.
A total of 243 entries from 43 countries were submitted for consideration to become one of the 2018 NAFF It Projects. Along with South Korea, submissions came in from all over the world from countries in Asia, to countries in South America and Europe, helping to reconfirm BIFAN's prestige as a world-class film festival.
Due to the multitude of high quality submissions this year, a considerable amount of time was needed to screen the projects and come up with the official selections. Projects were chosen based on their originality, on how true they stayed to their genre, and for the project's possibility of going on to completion. Including the four titles from South Korea, a total of 26 projects from 19 countries will be participating in B.I.G NAFF over a period of 4 days starting on the 14th of July.
B.I.G NAFF 2018 ‘It Project’ Preliminaries Review
In 2018, the 11th Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF) set the record of receiving 243 various entries by filmmakers from 43 countries. In addition to Regional Projects per usual and coming across brilliant work well beyond imagination by many different Asian countries, I was excited and happy, the screening process never got boring. It was not an easy task choosing a few projects among over the 200. Since we didn’t want quality work to be left out, we put extra effort to carefully make the selection through detailed discussion.
Watching film entries by countries with less active production, this displayed the infinite possibilities and potential of Asian film market. We hope that genre film projects produced through platforms such as NAFF, would take lead in the Asian film market as a great piece of work in a couple of years.
Completing a film is a long journey and the filmmakers’ confidence and belief plays a big role for its seed to sprout. An arduous journey, however do not get all worn out and please enjoy the process by thinking about your future audience. We hope the entries at NAFF will encounter the right relationship and opportunity and turn into a completed film. And couple years later, we hope to meet these films at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN).
